Rae apologised over something that really didn’t require an apology and by doing so he looked pretty good. His apology was heart felt and wasn’t a non-apology like those we are used to hearing from the assorted buffons in the Harper Government. Also adding to Rae’s glow was a comparison to past events involving Oda, Clement, MacKay etc and the different results on those occasions.
Rae then asked Harper take responsibility and own the burgeoning election fraud scandal. After having already apologised for something as he did, he was now expecting something similar from Harper. The only issue now is that election fraud is a crime. If Harper had done the honourable thing as per Rae, then he would have been admitting to involvement in the commission of a crime. If, as he did, Harper tried to deflect any culpability he would be left looking churlish and as though he was a petulant little boy.
This was some pretty canny footwork by Rae, who is showing he can dance well. However it speaks volumes about the naivete of Harper when the chips are down and it is a cast iron illustration that this number crunching, effete, jumped up staffer has no business being our Prime Minister. Imagine the wedgies that Putin, the Chinese and just about anybody else are giving this country because of the ego of this callow individual.
