I’m not a progressive or radical, just someone who believes the rights of citizenship are equal for all citizens. I believe my body is mine and think others have that right too.
- So we are all people.
- Some of us provide sperm in the creation of a new human, others the egg.
- The civil rights of each of the participants are not altered because of which component they bring.
Because the egg is fertilised and develops in one of these citizens does not alter the status of that person in the eyes of the law. They have the right to control what happens to their own body just like any other citizen.
Once whatever is gestating inside of them no longer lives through someone else, it becomes a human being. As long as it uses someone else to breathe, feed it and excrete for it, then it has no rights, rights belong to citizens.
Woodworth just wants to create a second tier of citizen, women. He is wrong and is motivated by superstition. To me superstition is no reason to deny anyone their right to own their own body.
At the end of the day it surprises me that someone from that side of politics that cherishes property rights, won’t even protect the most basic of property rights, the right to own your own body.
But then an adherence to dogma and superstition leads one to all sorts of stupidity and double standards.
