What is it with the Conservative idiot savants of the world and their inability to actually understand the lessons of history? And I’m not talking about the distant past, I’m talking about since WW2 in the Caribbean.
The US under a load of different presidents has consistently valued business, enforced stability and a disproportionate fear of imaginary communists over any respect for humanity. A good primer on the stupidity, inconsistency and unethical behaviour of the “world’s bestest democracy” in the region is Tunzelmann’s Red Heat.
Now our doofus in charge wants to get on the “how many people can we slaughter, torture and generally screw over for a quick buck” bandwagon that our ethically challenged neighbours have been riding for years. It would be pointless to ask Harper and his gang of clowns if they have any idea what the repercussions of their actions might be; they don’t care because it interferes with the way they insist things happen.
In August 2011, Canadian Prime Minister Harper became the first foreign leader to actually visit Honduras since the military coup. (Most governments in Latin America today still do not have full political and economic relations with the military-backed regime).
Leading a delegation of politicians and business executives, Prime Minister Harper signed a “free trade” agreement with the regime that gave international credibility to the regime and that further entrenches the rights of Canadian maquiladora (sweat-shop), tourism and mining businesses and investors in Honduras.
People are tortured so Stevie can point at cut price t-shirts in the local malls and declare that he is such a good little boy. Some humanitarian, some christian, absolutely corrupt and inhuman.
