After all the incessant crap and lies being thrown around by the religious and their disingenuous defenders here’s the solution. The only marriage that is valid from the point of view of state benefits, rights etc. is one is one that has been conducted by an officer of the state with all the paperwork signed witnessed etc. then and there. It doesn’t have to be a ceremony, it could just be a meeting, a chat and a cup of coffee.
Then if the married couple want to do something else to have a bit of a laugh they can go wherever they want or are allowed and do their thing. They can hire an actor or a religious money grubber in a frock, hire a building, field or a tent and have a party. Then those present are free to believe what they want they just don’t have state backing for their idiocy.
