Philosophy – Satanism appears to be as dumb as all the other religions and why shouldn’t it be, it’s a religion after all?

The faithy have apparently put aside their differences in order to protect their “bilk the stupid” businesses. I remember something about lions laying down with lambs, so the fact that the Satanists have joined the ranks of the other deluded idiots to push for the protection of their tax exempt, no-evidence required business interests religious freedom is not surprising. But it is interesting that they should completely undermine their position with their philosophy right off the bat,

“[We believe] that God is supernatural and thus outside of the sphere of the physical. God’s perfection means that he cannot interact with the imperfect corporeal realm. Because God cannot intervene in the material world, He created Satan to preside over the universe as His proxy. Satan has the compassion and wisdom of an angel. Although Satan is subordinate to God, he is mankind’s only conduit to the dominion beyond the physical. In addition, only Satan can hear our prayers and only Satan can respond. While God is beyond human comprehension, Satan desires to be known and knowable. Only in this way can there be justice and can life have meaning,” The Satanic Temple’s website states

The contradictions in that one statement beggar belief, but I’ll start with the one good point first. The satanists appear to accept that the problem of interaction is a doozie and renders most religious worldviews impossible from the word go. God who is wholly supernatural cannot interact with the natural, is a major problem for any faithy person. How does the non-physical interact with the physical? Pushing is not an option, what’s he going to use to push the object he has nothing physical on him?

But then it’s downhill from there. Not only do they forget to explain how god created matter given his inability to interact with the corporeal, but they also fail to explain how if god now creates satan to do the interacting how does that get around the problem? God can’t interact with the corporeal still so he can’t create an object that is corporeal to do that for him, otherwise he’d be interacting with the corporeal. If he creates another supernatural entity, which given the logic he could, all he has done is move the issue down a step. How would a supernatural satan interact with the natural?

So another reason that religion should be kept out of schools, as if more were needed. is that it is something that is diametrically opposed to purpose of a school; and that is to educate future generations in reasonable thinking. There is nothing reasonable about the contradictory crap that I read above. PZ describes it as “all bullshit,” I agree but it’s an insult that it isn’t even consistent and well thought out bullshit.

I keep being told there are sophisticated rationalisations for religious belief. Not necessarily those cited by the hoi polloi but those dreamed up in the intellectually sound corridors of the elite in theological circles.
But try as I might I have yet to discover or experience one that doesn’t demand that one put reality to one side as a requirement to make it feasible.
      Ah the search continues..
