Imagine my surprise that the “any tax is a bad tax” National Citizens whatever and their currently “non-partisan” recipient of wingnut welfare S Taylor Esq. admits to this.
“We sent out, I think, probably a hundred million pieces of mail. Paid for by the taxpayer, I should say. They were each barcoded, and they were each very issue-specific. Most people would sort of ignore it or say ‘this is garbage.’ But the few people who would actually send it back and say ‘Hell yeah, that’s what I’m all about’ — you would be able to put them in a database.” (My emphasis)
Seriously, is there anybody as two-faced as the modern right wing in this country. Taxes and welfare are bad unless it’s going to them or theirs. Partisan party hackery dressed up as research.
Hi there, I really should add some context here. What you’ve bolded there was noted regret that the Conservatives used tax dollars for this purpose. It was not to brag, but to call this out as a shameful aside. “We” in this case, is “our side” (meaning those on the rightish side of the divide, *not* the NCC). I really can’t claim any credit for the 10% program in either concept or execution. We at the NCC certainly didn’t benefit from the CPC’s research via the 10% program.
I regret that “my side” (specifically a party on the right) — that purports to keep a watchful eye over the public purse — used tax dollars in this way. It was a waste of taxpayer money, and I made this point clear in the tone of my voice (embarrassed and regretful) when I said the words you have highlighted above.
Next time, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or send me an email if you have any questions.
