Andrew Scheer has repeatedly shown that he is Harper’s poodle in the HoC in the past and has been criticised for not ensuring that the ideologues on the government’s benches actually answer the questions put to them. Now apparently he has initiated implementing a new tactic; he is going to stop people asking embarrassing questions in advance.
Earlier in the day, Scheer came back with a ruling in the Commons that told MPs he wouldn’t police the answers during debate, but rather the questions.
It appears that if he won’t ensure that the questions are answered honestly, I guess he is going to ensure that they don’t get answered at all.
So this is how democracy dies.
